Religious Education
Pre-School Class
St. Peter's Pre-School Sunday School class meets during the 8:30AM Mass. Children
from ages three to five who are not yet in Kindergarten, are welcome. This class is
generally taught by two or three high school students under the supervision of an adult
coordinator.
Our mission is to provide preschoolers with an early foundation in the teachings of the
church in a relaxed and joyous atmosphere. Class activities include songs, Bible stories,
various lessons about holidays and church activities, crafts and of course, snack time.
Elementary Classes
Grades Kindergarten through eighth offer a course of study and related programs designed
to enable our children to grow in the knowledge and love of God while fostering an
awareness and sense of responsibility to church and the community in which they live.
Parents are involved in Sacramental preparation and curriculum enrichment programs.
Grades K-8 meet following the 8:30AM Sunday Mass in the Parish Center from 9:30AM to 10:40AM.
High School Classes and Youth Ministry
Students in grades nine through twelve meet for two six-week sessions - one during the fall semester and one during
the spring semester.
The sessions continue and reinforces the lessons of earlier religious education with
emphasis on fidelity to the practice of Faith and Knowledgeable involvement in Catholic
liturgy.
Opportunities are provided for students to apply faith solutions to practical social
problems while participating in community service projects.
Fun activities scheduled throughout the year help promote Christian fellowship. Class
schedules and other youth activities are announced in the bulletin.
Summer Bible School
This week-long program is designed for classes first through sixth as an informal
religious instructional opportunity. Biblical texts, corresponding crafts and games
provide relaxed learning and fun for the students.
The Bible School schedule is announced in the Church bulletin.
R.C.I.A.
Curious about the Catholic Church and the Catholic faith? The R.C.I.A. (Rite of Christian
Initiation of Adults) is the Church's process for people to inquire about membership in
the Church. If God seems to be leading them in this direction, the R.C.I.A. is also the
means for becoming a full member.
This process has been a powerful and important part of the St. Peter's/Sacred Heart parish
community since 1988 and many people have completed it. At St. Peter's it is currently a
nine month process, roughly following the school year. Each person who participates in the
R.C.I.A. has a sponsor, a member of the parish, to companion him/her on this journey of
faith. The culmination of the process is the Easter Vigil at which the Sacraments of
Initiation are bestowed on the candidates and catechumens - Baptism, Confirmation and
Eucharist. Some participants receive all three sacraments, others only those which they
have not yet received.
If you are interested in looking into membership in the Catholic faith, please call the
Parish Office for further information. No commitment is required. The group meets every
Monday night from 7:00PM to 9:00PM from September through May.
Adult Bible Study and occasional informal continuing Adult Education
programs are announced in the bulletin.
