FOURTH SUNDAY OF LENT
FROM THE PASTOR – The Prodigal Father
Webster defines "prodigal" as "recklessly extravagant", "lavish", "luxuriant", or "profuse". Such a description seems to fit the father more than either of his sons in Jesus’ famous parable. The father lavishes forgiveness on his younger wayward son and profusely pleads with his older, loyal son. In his book, Return of the Prodigal Son, Father Henri Nouwen identifies our life-journey with each of the parable’s three main characters. Nouwen sees the fulfillment of spiritual maturity in our becoming the compassionate, recklessly extravagant (in terms of mercy) prodigal father.
St. Paul reflects on God the Father’s incredibly lavish work of reconciliation accomplished in Christ. God redeemed the world through the sacrificial death of Jesus, making him who did not know sin to be sin, so that we could become righteous. God has entrusted us with the ministry of reconciliation, commissioning us as ambassadors for Christ in the spirit of the prodigal father.

But many people ‘outgrow’ that wisdom by becoming sophisticated or numb."PREGNANCY HOTLINE – 1-800-848-LOVE (5683)
