COMMITTEES
PARISH COUNCIL
The Parish Council consisting
of eight members serves as a representative body of the church community
acting in an advisory capacity to the Pastor. It assumes responsibility
with him in identifying and solving critical parish issues. The Council
functions as an intermediary between this parish and the other parishes
of the Tioga Deanery in addition to operating as the liaison between
the various committees active in St. Peter's/Sacred Heart.
With the direction and cooperation of the Pastor, the Council membership supports the
spiritual growth of the church community by seeking out and encouraging the many and
varied talents of individuals whose gifts enrich us all.
Committee members are chosen at random from names submitted by the Parish community. Any
registered parishioner age 18 years of age and older is eligible for a three year term.
Meetings are usually held every three weeks. Special meetings may be
called by the Pastor or any Council member. Times and location are announced
in the Church bulletin and are open to all members of the Parish.
WORSHIP COMMITTEE
Mission Statement:
Under pastoral direction, the Worship Committee of St. Peter's will
coordinate the various dimensions of the liturgical life being mindful
that we are made children of God by faith and baptism and should come
together to praise God in the midst of His Church, to take part in the
sacrifice, and to eat the Lord's Supper.
Goals & Objectives
1. To urge members to participate in the entire Mass and to convey the
Church's desire that the faithful be led to a full, conscious, and active
participation in liturgical celebrations.
2. To foster what ever can promote the concept of the "Welcoming
Church" and unity among all members.
3. To encourage all parishioners to give input to the Worship Committee
regarding liturgical issues.
4. To promote the liturgical instruction of the faithful.
5. To recognize that the Word as proclaimed and preached is a means
by which the mystery of the faith and the guiding principles of the
Christian life are expounded during the course of the liturgical year.
6. To ensure that sacred music will be closely joined to the liturgical
rite whether by enhancing prayer, fostering oneness of spirit, or investing
the rites with greater solemnity.
7. To encourage active participation of the whole assembly in song.
8. To make every effort to foster the sacredness of our place of worship
so as to contribute to the uplifting of the faithful.
Meetings are usually announced in the bulletin and are held once a month
or as needed.
FINANCE COMMITTEE
The Finance Committee has been established as mandated by the Code of
Canon Law, to assist with decision making process regarding the revenues
and expenditures of the Parish. The Committee analyzes purchasing decisions,
prepares the annual budget and submits the annual report to the Diocese
and the Parish.
The Committee generally meets monthly to review recent income and expense
reports for the Parish. We make recommendations to the other Committees
regarding availability of funds. Finally, we prepare a detailed budget
on an annual basis which serves as an outline for the coming year's
expenditures.
Meetings are usually held in the morning at the rectory and are announced
in the bulletin. The meetings are open to all members of the Parish.
SOCIAL CONCERNS
COMMITTEE
The committee works to facilitate
the parish's response to the gospel's social justice message. The committee
supports projects that include:
1. Funeral Luncheaons
2. Delivering meals for parishioners following hospitalization
3. The Samaritan House
4. Prison Ministry
5. Valentine's meal for shut-in parishioners
6. Crop Walk
7. Mother's Day layette project
8. Annual St. Peter's spoonsored blood drive
9. Christmas Giving Tree
All parishioners are invited
to attend our bimonthly meetings. They are usually held the third Wednesday
of January, March, May, July, September and November at 4PM in the Adult
Education Room. The meeting schedule is subject to change and is announced
in the bulletin.
CEMETERY COMMITTEE
It is the purpose of this committee to restore, preserve and improve
Calvary Cemetery as a dignified memorial to our deceased parishioners
and other beloved early members of our community to whom we owe a debt
of gratitude for their many contributions. Volunteers take responsible
for seasonal maintenance and beautification through the "Adopt-A-Plot"
program and related activities. These parishioner "Guardian Angels"
attend to the plots of the deceased whose families have moved away from
the area and are no longer able to visit the graves.
Families of the deceased are contacted once a year by letter. At least
one hundred mailings go out annually in an effort to make them aware
of the committees activities.
In 1995 the committee initiated a Perpetual Care Fund under the supervision
of the Diocese of Scranton to earn enough interest to be used to help
maintain the cemetery grounds.
Meetings are called at the discretion of the Pastor and are announced
in the bulletin.
