TWENTY-FIFTH SUNDAY IN ORDINARY TIME
Celebrating Catechetical Sunday, September 19th
At the heart of catechesis we find, in essence, a Person, the Person of Jesus of Nazareth…The definitive aim of catechesis is to put people not only in touch but in communion, in intimacy, with Jesus Christ: only He can lead us to the love of the Father in the Spirit and make us share in the life of the Holy Trinity. (Pope John Paul II, Catechesi tradendae)
Teachers and catechists truly act as stewards of God’s gift of faith, in many cases working unselfishly to help others recognize the gifts that He has given to them. The annual celebration of Catechetical Sunday, and the commissioning of catechists that occurs on that day, is an important way for parishes to recognize and affirm those men and women who generously, and with great dedication, share the gift of faith with others.(Most Reverend Daniel M. Buechlein, OSB, Chariman, Committee on Catechesis USCCB, 2004).
A BIG THANK YOU to everyone who supported last weekend’s bake sale for our Missionary, Gwen Zugarek. Please remember her in your prayers as she ministers over the next seven months in Uganda.

2004 DIOCESAN ANNUAL APPEAL – “Sharing God’s Gifts” is the theme of this year’s Diocesan Annual Appeal. We are called to be good Stewards of the work of the Church by sharing with the church from all that we have received. We are asked to share God’s gifts by giving freely from all that we have received ‘For where your treasure is, there your heart will be also.” In Matthew’s Gospel we are thus asked to consider what is most important to us. If our faith dictates that the work being done in the church is important and good for the world, then we, as good stewards of that work, can share freely from all that we have received. The Diocesan Annual Appeal supports a number of Diocesan ministries and programs. Our parish benefited last year from the Social Justice Trust Fund – receiving a $900.00 grant for our Prison Ministry Program.
Please read carefully the attachment to today’s bulletin. It clearly explains the funded items. All parishioners are encouraged to take a new look at this important campaign and to prayerfully consider a generous pledge, payable over five months (Jan. 2005 – May 2005). Some of our registered parishioners received a mailing from Bishop Martino last week, and all others will receive theirs this week. Please complete the enclosed pledge form and mail it to the Diocese, or bring it to Church next weekend.
Next weekend at all of the Masses, one person from each parish household will be asked to complete a pledge card. If you have already given by mail or cannot give at this time, you can mark the cards accordingly. It is very important that each household decide, ahead of time, which member will complete the card at Mass.

LIFELINE – [Human trafficking] constitutes a shocking offense against human dignity and a grave violation of fundamental human rights. In particular, the sexual exploitation of women and children is a particularly repugnant aspect of this trade, and must be recognized as an intrinsic violation of human dignity and human rights.
