THIRTY-THIRD SUNDAY IN ORDINARY TIME
A Woman of Valor
“Let her works praise her in the city gates.” (Proverbs 31:10-13,19-20, 30-31))
THE role of women continues to evolve in society and in the church. We have become more aware of the gifts women have to offer and the benefits of placing those gifs in service to the community. Women who generously offer their wisdom and talents have made the world a better place to live.
Hundreds of years before the dawn of Christianity, the book of Proverbs praised the gifts of a worthy wife. It is interesting to look at what that long-ago culture valued.
The book warns against charm and beauty, for they do not last. Instead, Proverbs praises the wife who brings good to the home, who obtains wool and flax, who spins with proficiency, and who gives to the poor.
That long-ago culture believed that a good wife was one of honorable character, who used her skills for the good of the community, and performed works of charity.
Although our culture’s image of the working woman has changed in some aspects, these central values are timeless. Women who devote themselves to their work, to their faith, to their households and to those in need, can still rejoice in the praise of the book of Proverbs. The entire community thanks God for their inspiring service and care. (Written by Paul Turner. Copyright 2001, Archdiocese of Chicago, Liturgy Training Publications; 1-800-933-1800; www.ltp.org.)
NOVEMBER 2002 -- MONTH OF ALL SOULS!
Eternal rest grant unto them O Lord and let perpetual light shine upon them. May their souls and all the souls of the faithful departed, through the mercy of God, rest in peace. Amen
All Souls Day Remembrance envelopes remain at the entrances of the church. Inscribe the names of your deceased family and friends to be remembered on the envelope and place it in the collection. The envelopes are placed on the altar throughout the month of November.
Adoption remains one of the most important alternatives to abortion and child abuse. It is a loving an courageous act of sacrifice and acceptance of moral responsibility by both birth and adopting parents. November is National Adoption Month and again provides an appropriate occasion to promote adoption and to ask each of you to do the same. Everyone is asked to support adoption to the general public and, in particular, to women who are experiencing untimely pregnancies. Previous public support has resulted in policies such as tax credits that promote adoption. That support must continue and be increased.

LIFELINE! The Pope suffers with all those who weep because of bereavement and destruction; above all he is close to the numerous innocent victims who pay the price of violence. He wishes to repeat to everyone, regardless of the ethnic group to which they belong, that there is no justification for those who kill defenseless civilians indiscriminately. Pope John Paul II
