THIRTY-SECOND SUNDAY IN ORDINARY TIME

Neither Remote nor Aloof

“Wisdom is found by those who seek her.” (Wisdom 6:12-16)

EDUCATION is more than gathering knowledge about things. It is attaining wisdom. It forms people in a way of life. Religious education especially has this goal: not just teaching things about the church, but forming people as disciples.

Even once we leave school, we still have much to learn. The lessons of life come easily at times, but sometimes at great cost. Those who go through life open to learning will gain true wisdom.

The book of Wisdom imagines God’s wisdom as a woman. She is not aloof and hard to discover. She hastens to make herself known in anticipation of those who desire to see her. She goes around where people live, meets them on the streets, and greets them with loving care. The wisdom of life is easy to find for those who want to learn.

How does your community make it possible for you to gain wisdom? Do people gather for formal education? Do guests come to speak? Does your community promote the reading of books and the discussion of ideas?

God’s wisdom is not meant to be remote. It is ready for us before we are ready for it. When we go to seek wisdom, wisdom will be there waiting. (Written by Paul Turner. Copyright 2001, Archdiocese of Chicago, Liturgy Training Publications; 1-800-933-1800; www.ltp.org.)

LIFELINE!  The act of cloning is a predetermined act which forces the image and likeness of the donor and is actually a form of imposing dominion over another human being which denies the human dignity of the child…who would be seen as an object and a product of one’s fancy rather than as a unique human being, equal in dignity to those who “created” him or her. (Archbishop Renato Martino)
